From Spring to Snow

By:  Donna Martin

“He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes.

He hurls down his hail like pebbles.

Who can withstand his icy blast?

He sends his word and melts them;

He stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.”  Psalms 147: 16-18

I stood at the patio door this morning taking in the beauty of the ice covered landscape.  The delicate white blooms on Bradford trees that had suddenly appeared last week with the promise of spring were covered with ice.  “What do you suppose God has planned for the Bradford trees?”  I asked Mike.  “Do you think the blooms will fall off and then bloom again or will the flowers continue to bloom after the ice melts?”

I marveled at the power of God.  How amazing He is to create a beautiful 80 degree day for us to enjoy and then surprise us with an ice covered winter wonderland the next day.  Some may complain, but I enjoy the surprises and variety that He gives us each day in His beautiful creation.

Variety and change is a good thing.  It keeps life interesting and exciting.  Too many times we get in a rut and our lives and marriages become mundane and boring.  We become so predictable that our spouse knows how we will react to any situation, what we will say, what we will wear, what we will eat, and so on and so on.

Is it time for a change in your life?  Instead of trying to change your spouse, or even wishing for a new one, why not change yourself?  Become more positive, more encouraging and a little unpredictable.  Prepare new recipes; take your spouse to a new restaurant.  Try a new activity.  Make new friends.  Rearrange the furniture.  Play a new game.  Start the project that you have been procrastinating.  Fix the things that are broken that you have been promising to fix.  Learn a new dance.  Watch less T.V and talk more or read more or sing more.  Just do something different (in a positive way) and see what a difference it can make in your marriage.
