Leaving a Lasting Legacy – Part 2

By:  Mike Martin

Couples can leave a positive legacy  for their family by fearing and obeying God.

Fearing God comes with a promise.  Psalm 112:1-2 tells us, “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands.  His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.”

Fearing God can be compared to the great respect and love that children should have for their earthly parents.  When a person fears God, he wants to please God in everything he does.  He wants to be obedient to God.  The fear part comes into play in the same way a child fears disobeying his earthly parents.  The child fears his parents not because he thinks they will torture him, but because he is afraid of displeasing them.  When we respect and love God as our heavenly father, our children will see that in the way we live our lives in obedience to God’s plan.  We obey him not because we are afraid he will punish us, but because we respect and love Him and do not want to disappoint Him. You can leave a positive legacy by fearing and obeying God.
