Our relationship with our spouse can be one of the most wonderful relationships that we have.  However, it is not the most important relationship that we have.

The most important relationship that you can have is a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Having a relationship with Christ gives you inner peace and a purpose for living.  In fact it can even help you be a better spouse.   But more importantly if you have a relationship with Christ when you die you will spend eternity in heaven.

How do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ?  The Bible contains both good news and bad news.  Let’s look at the bad news first.

Bad News - Romans 3:23 states:  “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

All of us sin.  We lie, we lust, and we are jealous and selfish.  The list of sins could go on and on.  God is holy and perfect, and to have a relationship with him we must be holy and perfect.  But that is impossible because we are sinners and we fall short.  No matter how good we try to act, no matter how many people we help, no matter how loving we are to our spouse, no matter how many times we go to church we can never be good enough.

More bad news is found in Romans 6:23:  “For the wages of sin is death.”

When we work we get paid for the work we do.  That payment is our wages.  The Bible says that our payment for the sins that we commit is death.  That is pretty grim news.  But wait.  Let’s look at the Good News!

Good News!  Since there is no way that we can get to God, the Bible tells us that God came to us.

Romans 5:8 states:  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Let’s suppose that you were convicted of murder and you were sentenced to die.  Then on the day that you were to be executed the jailer came to your cell and said, “A man came in this morning and said that he loved you wanted to take your place, so you are free to go.”  You would be free to go because the man took your punishment.

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ was God’s Son and that He came into the world and died for our sins.  He died so that you would not have to die.  And to prove that He was actually God, He rose from the dead.  His resurrection proved that sin and death had been conquered.

More Good News.  Now that you know that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again, you can have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 states:  “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not perish, but will have eternal life.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 states:  “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

To believe means to “accept something as being true.” Grace means “undeserved favor.”  Faith means “trust”. When you sit down in a chair you trust the chair to hold you.

So to have a relationship with Jesus Christ so that you can spend eternal life in heaven you must simply:

Believe that Jesus is God’s son and that he came to earth, died for our sins, and rose from the dead. Then you put your trust in Christ alone.  When you do this you can begin your relationship with Jesus Christ and you will go to heaven when you die.

Is there anything keeping your from trusting Christ today?

Just pray and tell God you trust his Son, Jesus Christ, as your Savior. Christ alone saves. Trust Him today.

Send us a message using the "WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU" tab on this page and tell us the Good News that you have made this important decision in your life.
